App Rating Optimisation : A tricky game | Courtesy – Androidpolice
Seeing the red bar bigger than the dark green one on the play store app page can give any marketer/developer nightmares. Still, what we see very frequently that an enormous amount of effort of is spent in development of the App, very few steps are taken to make sure that it has respectable ratings in app stores. Panic starts when the damage has been already done, but you, you can avoid the damage by taking the below smart moves to get amazing ratings on your app 🙂
1. Ratings from high usage users– This will help to have better top reviews. Drop a notification to frequent users of the app to rate it. This is based on assumption that if they visit the app a few times during the day, they must consider it good. The profiling of the customers comes in handy here. Make sure to time the notification well so that the users are not annoyed by the obstruction. Best to give a popup when the users have just completed an action on the app.

2. Personal Outreach – Reach out in person to a few customers to rate the app and while doing so, ask them to make it a honest and descriptive one. This will help you understand where the problem lies and weed it out. A few great customers would rate you well also.

3. New downloads and ratings – If the app didn’t fly off properly and the current customer base has already vented anger in ratings you can run a few ads to encourage new downloads and ask the new users to rate the app. Make sure that you do not push notifications for the old users to rate as you may just invite their fury. Give some time to them to cool down:)

4. Incentivise reviews – If very critical, you can incentivise the process of rating. Every person that rates, gets no video ads, 200 free coins or something like that.

5. Funnelling Negative Review – Create a feedback button in the app or use a pop-up, “Happy with the app?” with two options of yes and no. If no, the app opens a mail window for a mail to be sent to example@examplecompany.com, if yes, then the app directs the user to the play store to rate. Keeps all negative comments on mail and positive ones on Play Store! This should work well.
